Penrose Square: The Carbon Companies

THE SITUATION
Just down the road from the Pentagon and in a high-traffic urban setting, Penrose Square is the first and largest of three new squares that will make up the planned Columbia Pike Town Center. This mixed-use development includes 120,000 square feet of specialty retail and office space; 300 luxury apartments and townhomes; and a shared garage. The Carbon Companies chose Kastle Systems for this $80 million development following previous positive experiences. They implemented three unique security solutions to appeal to new and existing tenants: proximity pendants, visitor management and video surveillance.

THE RESULT
The pendants work like a car’s keyless entry and were specially programmed by Kastle Systems to tie into Penrose Square’s access control system. This system limits access to base-building entry points, individual apartments, maintenance facilities, fitness centers, elevators and garages. Kastle Systems also installed software that would allow tenants to personally authorize visitors. Penrose Square chose to further layer their security by installing 55 cameras throughout the development. The maintenance office, which houses the video command center for these cameras, is protected by window detection and motion sensors.
